Prairie dock is a herbaceous perennial native to prairies, fens, railroad right-of-ways, and other exposed habitats in the Midwest. This striking native species features a basal clump of huge oval to heart-shaped, dark green leaves reaching up to 2 feet long. From this lush foliage rise smooth, almost leafless stems that branch near the top and can reach heights of up to 10 feet, adding vertical interest to any landscape. Ideal for sustainable design and ecological restoration, prairie dock thrives in sunny locations and supports local biodiversity. Prairie Doc is a species of concern in Ohio due to habitat loss.
