Lyre-leaf Sage, also called 'cancer weed', is an ideal native plant, thriving easily in average, medium to wet soils under full sun. Preferring moist, sandy or clay soils, it tolerates very light shade but performs best in bright conditions, while also enduring heat and humidity. This resilient species self-seeds and naturalizes, supporting natural restoration efforts. Its striking upright spikes bear whorls of two-lipped, lavender blue flowers approximately one inch long, adding refined color and texture to any native garden. This is an excellent ground cover for borders and naturalized plantings and rain gardens.
