Blue Star,  Amsonia hubrichtii, is a versatile native plant ideal for sustainable landscapes. It thrives easily in average, medium, well-drained soil under full sun to part shade, with a preference for moist, loamy soils, and tolerates some drought. When grown in full sun, Blue Star typically requires no pruning or staking, making it a low-maintenance choice. In shadier or richer soil conditions, however, plants may become more open and floppy. 
Native to the central United States it will grow in a rounded habit 2 to 3 feet tall and just as wide. It is considered deer tolerant. It has striking bronze foliage in the fall.
